About this piece
This one hangs on the wall and touches nothing else. The body branches out from a thick centre into rounded pods, wide near the middle and drawing down to a thin tail at the lower left that comes to a point. Six openings sit inside the frame, some small enough for a short row of books, one long enough to leave empty as a run of shadow. The walnut is worked so the surface flows without a break from one pod into the next, and the light slides along the rounded edges instead of catching a corner.
The whole form is shaped from solid hardwood. It is carved down from mass, so the walls of each opening change thickness as the shape demands, which no veneered panel can do. There is no printed grain anywhere on it. Work starts once your order is in, which means the pattern of figure across the pods belongs to your piece alone. The workshop sends photos through each stage of shaping for you to approve before it goes further.
It ships disassembled, with the branch sections and the wall fixings packed separately so nothing presses against the thin tail in transit. Splitting it up also brings the freight down. Printed assembly instructions are in the crate, and our team is on email if you want help lining the sections up.
