A serpentine spine winds from the base to the top, and rounded shelves branch off it at four heights, each one shaped closer to a platter than a plank with softened edges all the way round. The top of the spine opens into a flared shape like a tulip cup. Lower down the wood swings out to the left and back again, ending in a flat foot that carries a small stack of books. In the photo the grain follows the serpentine so closely that the shape and the figure look like they were drawn together.
The spine is carved from solid hardwood in the mass, not laminated in strips and not wrapped in veneer, and no part of the surface carries a printed pattern. The rounded shelf undersides are worked by hand until they hold the same soft radius the whole way around. We begin after your order lands, so the way the figure meets each curve on your piece is unique to the boards opened for it. Photographs of every stage come to you from the workshop for approval.
It ships in parts, with the spine sections and the shelves packed separately so no weight rests on a thin edge in transit. Breaking it down also keeps the shipping charge lower. Printed assembly instructions travel in the crate, and email support is on hand for any step. Free worldwide delivery, tracking emailed when it leaves, and returns accepted within 30 days.
