Branching Carved Base TV Console with a Single Shelf

There is no box here. A long plank rides on a base that forks and rejoins like limbs, and the only storage is one shelf slung between the branches, holding a few books and nothing more. It behaves like something found rather than built, which is precisely the effect a room full of screens needs.

Underneath the poetry is heavy work. Solid blocks are laminated into a mass and then carved away until the forks are thin enough to look grown but thick enough to carry a large television without flex. The top is dressed flat and eased at the edges so the pale streaks in the grain run the full length uninterrupted. Oil is rubbed in over several passes and cut back between them, so the surface glows without a plastic sheen. Every console is carved to order.

It leaves in pieces, the top separated from the base and each padded on its own. Sculptural legs survive the trip far better this way, and the freight cost drops with the smaller footprint.
