Walnut Drawn Out Into Flame, a Sculptural Wall Art Piece

The shape begins as a slender point on the left, then unfurls into a fan of tapering tongues that curl, cross and lift away from the wall like a flame caught mid motion. Open voids sit between the arms so the wall shows through, and the whole piece reads as line and shadow rather than mass.

It is built from solid hardwood blocks joined edge to edge, then shaped by hand until the surface flows in one continuous sweep. Sanding follows the curve instead of fighting it, and the finish stays close to the wood so the real grain remains visible: dark ribbons through the wide sections, paler flecks along the thin tips. Each one is carved after your order comes in, so no two run identically.

Hanging is easier with a second pair of hands because of the length, though the weight is manageable. The piece travels disassembled to protect those fine tips and to keep freight sensible, and it goes back together in a few simple steps.
