Two Walnut Halves, One Butterfly Wall Sculpture

Walnut has a way of splitting into matched halves, and this piece leans on it. Two carved wings meet at the middle, each one curling forward off the wall in ribbons that fold over deep, spooned hollows. The tips draw out into long tapers, and behind the whole shape a warm light throws a glow that outlines every curve.

Each wing begins as solid wood blocks joined and then carved down until the ribbons separate and lift, which is why the piece has real depth rather than a printed suggestion of it. The finish is rubbed into the wood so the grain still travels along every fold, pale on the raised ribbons and darker where the carving cuts deep. The two halves are made as a pair, to order, so they answer each other properly.

The wings travel as separate parts, packed so the thin curled tips arrive whole and the freight stays reasonable.
