About this piece
The main top is a long oval with a thick rounded edge, standing on a wide plinth leg that reads as a solid panel of wood. Behind it a lower return runs at a right angle, holding two open shelves for books and two drawers with rounded fronts. The grain moves in wide bands across the top and wraps the corners of the return, so the two parts read as one piece.
Everything is cut from solid boards. The thick edges are shaped and sanded by hand rather than built up from veneer, and no surface here is printed. Work starts after your order, so the banding across your top will not repeat this one. Photographs from the workshop reach you at each stage and nothing continues until you have approved them.
The desk leaves us in pieces. Top, plinth leg and return cabinet are packed separately, which protects the rounded edges and keeps freight cost down.
