About this piece
This is the quiet one. Two slim flames run parallel, cross near the middle and part again, with a single oval opening carved into each side. Nothing about it shouts, which is why it works above a bed or along a hallway where a heavier piece would crowd the wall.
It is made from solid walnut blocks joined lengthwise, then carved to a thin, even section that keeps the silhouette sharp. The tapered points are the slowest part of the work and are shaped entirely by hand. Grain is left open under a light finish, so the figure reads clearly from a few steps away. Every piece is cut to order.
The sculpture arrives in pieces, which is the safest way to move something this slender. Once the sections are on the wall the seams disappear into the line of the carving.
