Two carved panels sit side by side and behave as one long wave. The left half is calm, wide swells rolling toward the middle, where an oval opening sits ringed by a raised lip like water drawn around a stone. The right half breaks into tighter crests and folds. Top and bottom edges rise and fall instead of running straight, which is why the whole thing feels closer to a tide line than a picture.
Both halves are built from solid hardwood blocks joined into single fields, then carved so the wave carries from one panel into the next across the meeting line. The surface is finished to bring the grain forward, and the figure in the timber runs with the carved swells, warm on the crests and shadowed in the troughs. Both halves are made to order for the same wall.
The work naturally travels in parts, which keeps the carved faces protected on the way and keeps shipping economical for a piece this wide.
