Spiral Vortex Carved Walnut Wall Relief Panel

Ridges fan out from a deep round opening set low on the right side, each one cut so the light breaks along a different edge. Up close the chisel marks read almost like brushwork across the surface. Step back and the whole square settles into one slow turning current, with the shadow inside the opening acting as the still point.

The piece begins as solid hardwood blocks joined into a single field, then carved as one so the movement runs straight through the joins instead of stopping at them. The finish is kept close to the wood, which is why the darker streaks follow the deepest troughs and the raised crests stay pale. Every panel is carved to order, so the figure in the grain belongs to that one board and never repeats.

Large work travels safely in sections. Shipping it disassembled keeps the carved faces protected and keeps freight sensible, and the sections meet on a cleat so hanging comes down to a level, a drill and a few minutes. Written instructions travel with the crate, and our team is on hand if a wall makes things tricky.
