Sculpted S-Curve Bookshelf in Solid Walnut

The spine sweeps up in a long S and finishes in a shelf that lifts at the tip like a wing, wide enough for one heavy vessel. Below it the wood opens into a slanted cradle that holds books at an angle rather than upright, so the spines fan as they lean. A straight shelf crosses the middle, and near the floor the piece rolls into a solid boat-shaped base with a flat top for a small stack. Two low ledges break out to the left where the curve allows it.

All of this comes out of solid hardwood, worked by hand. The cradle and the base are carved down from thick stock, which is why the surfaces meet without a visible seam and the grain keeps running as the shape turns. There is no veneer here and no printed grain. Since we make it after you order, the figure in your spine is set by the boards chosen for your build. The workshop sends photographs at each stage for approval before moving forward.

The piece is taken apart for shipping. Spine, shelves and base travel packed as separate items, which keeps pressure off the thin wing tip and reduces what the freight costs.
