Rootveil Walnut Wall Relief, Carved in Two Panels

Look at it for a moment and the ridges start behaving like roots. Heavy strands lift off the surface, cross over one another, and pull open around a smooth oval void set high on the right. The figured walnut runs dark and glossy in the hollows, then catches a bright edge along every raised strand.

The relief is carved from solid wood blocks joined into two stacked panels, worked so the strands continue through the joint without interruption. The surface is finished to expose the burl figure rather than flatten it, which is why the pattern shifts as you walk past. Each piece is made to order, so the figure is never repeated.

The panels ship separately and unassembled, keeping the undercut strands protected and the crate manageable. Hanging is a matter of setting the lower panel, then bringing the upper one down onto it.
