Riverform Wall Desk, Carved from a Single Wood Slab

A thick slab floats off the wall and the whole front edge has been carved into a run of deep ripples, so the wood looks like water caught mid movement. Light gathers in the hollows and drops away in the folds, which makes the edge change through the day while the flat top stays calm. The surface itself is quiet, a warm honey plane with the grain running the long way, wide enough for a book, a pot and a laptop.

The slab is one piece of solid wood and the ripples are cut into it with gouges, not moulded, glued on or printed. Once the carving is done the edge is sanded and finished so it is smooth to the hand while keeping every shadow. Since the desk is only started after your order, the depth and rhythm of your ripples follow the board in front of the maker. Photos of each stage reach you for approval as the carving progresses.

It ships knocked down, with the slab and the wall fixings packed separately so the carved edge travels protected and freight stays modest.
