About this piece
A single ribbon of wood folds down through the piece, and four flat shelves step off it as it goes, each one lower and set a little further along. The top shelf lifts on a curved tongue that stands proud of the wall. At the bottom the ribbon rolls into a foot that sits directly on the floor with no separate plinth. The walnut in the photo has a strong quarter-sawn stripe along the folds and turns satin where the curve catches the light. It reads narrow, so it fits a wall that would swallow a wider bookcase.
The ribbon and the shelves are cut from solid hardwood and shaped by hand. The folds are carved, which is why the thickness changes slightly through each turn instead of holding one machined dimension. No veneer over board, no printed grain film. Your piece is only started once the order comes in, so the figure that runs down your ribbon is decided by the specific boards we open for it. Stage photos are sent from the workshop for you to approve as the work goes on.
It ships flat and disassembled. Shelves and spine sections are packed apart so nothing bears down on a curve in transit, and the smaller crate costs less to move.
