Pale Timber Cloud Rolling Across a Walnut Wall Panel

The backing board is dark, quiet walnut. Sitting on it is something much lighter: a mass of pale timber worked into ribbed, rolling folds that billow past the board on both sides, the way a cloud spills over the edge of a window frame. Each fold is scored with fine parallel lines, so from across the room the cloud looks combed, and up close it looks carved.

The cloud is built from solid wood blocks joined and then carved down through the layers until the ribs emerge, while the panel behind it is left broad and plain to give the eye somewhere to rest. Both parts are finished to keep the real grain in view, the dark board reading almost like slate and the cloud staying warm and open. Every one is made after your order goes in.

The cloud and the board ship separately in protective packing, which guards the delicate rib edges and keeps the shipping bill honest for a piece of this width.
