Looping Current Wall Relief, Hand Carved in Walnut

Hang this above a long sofa or a credenza and the room changes register. One thick ribbon of dark timber travels the full width, crosses over itself, and leaves two open eyes where the wall shows through. Nothing about it is symmetrical, yet the eye keeps circling the loop without finding an end.

Solid hardwood blocks are joined edge to edge and then carved as one continuous body, which is what allows a ribbon that wide to sweep unbroken from one side to the other. The finish sits close to the timber so the tight ripple figure stays legible across every curve, dark in the hollows and warm where the crests rise. Each piece is cut to order.

The work arrives in sections rather than as a single long form. Splitting it keeps the slender loop safe on the road and holds shipping cost down, and the sections rejoin on a concealed cleat once they are on the wall.
