Layered Ridge Lines in Oak, a Carved Wall Panel

Oak is the reason this one works. Its long straight grain lets the carver cut ridge after ridge without the fibres tearing, so the layered lines stay crisp where they crowd together and stay smooth where they open into wide basins. Two corners are combed with fine diagonal grooves, a quieter texture that sets off the deep work in the middle.

The board is made from solid wood blocks joined into a single field, then relieved by hand until the contours stack like a slice of terrain. The surface is finished so the grain reads clearly along every ridge instead of disappearing under gloss. Carving begins after the order, so the pattern follows the timber you are given.

It arrives in sections rather than one heavy plate, a safer trip for the sharp ridge tops and a lighter one for the freight. The sections seat on their hangers and knit back into one panel. Instructions come with it, and our team can walk you through the alignment if anything sits proud.
