The carving keeps them half sunk in the slab, so cheeks and brows read as portrait while the rest stays raw timber, split with natural fissures that run off toward the corners.

Solid blocks are joined edge to edge, then worked down until the features emerge. The finish is thin and matte, chosen so the growth rings pass across a forehead or a jaw without interruption.
