Hollowed Curve Wall Sculpture with an Open Core

This one does not behave like a flat panel. It rises off the wall as a tall curving shell, tapers to a fin at the top, and opens into a deep hollow whose inner wall is carved in fine horizontal ridges. Near the middle the wood breaks all the way through, leaving a soft edged opening that shows the wall behind and shifts as you walk past it.

Solid wood blocks are joined and then worked from the outside in until the shape reads as a single piece with no visible seams. The inner cavity is sanded as carefully as the outer face because both are on show. Finishing brings up the walnut figure, so the pale sapwood along one flank and the darker heartwood on the other stay exactly as the tree grew them.

Each sculpture is made after you order, and larger versions arrive as separate parts so the thin curved sections are not asked to survive a long trip in one piece.
