About this piece

Liberty is caught mid stride here, torch arm lifted, her robe pulled sideways as if the harbor wind had just hit it. Behind her the wood is cut into rays that spread from her shoulders to the panel edge, and a field of small raised stars sits in the upper corner. The folds of the gown are deep enough to throw real shadow across her chest.

The relief is carved from solid walnut blocks joined into one upright panel, worked from the background down until the figure stands clear of the surface. Sanding and finishing leave the grain visible, so the dark ribbons of walnut run straight through the drapery and act like folds of their own. Each panel is carved after you order, never pulled from a shelf.

Delivery is made with the panel disassembled, which protects the carved torch and star field and keeps shipping lighter than a fully built crate would allow. Fittings and instructions come in the box and the panel goes together with basic tools. Our workshop answers questions during assembly if you need a hand.
