Hand-Carved Slot Canyon Wall Sculpture With a Lone Canoe

Depth is the whole point of this one. Two carved walls fall away from either side and leave a narrow river of smooth, flat grain running top to bottom, the way a slot canyon opens when you stand above it and look straight down. Near the base a single canoe drifts on that channel with an oarsman aboard, small enough to miss on the first pass.

Each wall is cut from solid hardwood blocks joined into one thick body, then shaped in stepped layers so the ridges catch light and drop into shadow. The sanding runs fine enough that the stone-like surfaces feel soft under a hand, and the oil finish leaves the growth rings visible instead of burying them under film. Because it is made after you order, the grain in your canyon will differ from the one photographed here.

The piece arrives in sections, wrapped individually, which is the safest way to move deep relief carving and keeps shipping from climbing. Hardware and an illustrated guide are packed alongside.
