Grain of a Single Walnut Log, Carved as a Whale Wall Panel

The whale is halfway out of the water and the sea has not let go of it yet. Above, a carved crescent moon sits on an open sky of quiet grain, a few birds are cut small near the horizon, and below, rank after rank of ridged waves roll down to the bottom edge. Two panels stack to make the scene, with one horizontal line where they meet.

Both panels are solid wood, built from joined blocks and carved as a single surface, so the whale's ribbed throat and the combed water lines are cut rather than pressed. The boards are chosen for figure that already moves like water, and the oil finish deepens that without hiding a single growth ring. Every piece is made to order in the workshop, so yours will read slightly differently from this one.

The panels are shipped separately, each wrapped and braced, which is safer for the carved edges and far kinder on freight than one crate. Hardware and instructions come with them, and the two align on the wall using a level and the seam itself as a guide. Questions during hanging get answered by our team.
