Dune Ripple Wall Relief, Cut and Carved by Hand

Softness is the first thing you notice. The whole face rolls in low dunes with no sharp edges anywhere, and the ripples orbit a round opening slightly right of center that reveals the wall behind. Seen from an angle, the relief stands well off the wall and throws its own long shadows, which is why this one suits a room with a lamp or a window on one side.

The panel is formed from solid wood blocks joined into a single field, then carved until the surface swells and dips like sand after wind. Sanding is taken far enough that the wood feels smooth under the palm across every curve. The finish is worked in so the pale ash and warm tan streaks of the real grain stay on show, and the crests read lighter than the hollows without any added color.
