Driftshield Carved Wall Art in Figured Walnut

The timber does half the work here. Wide bands of figured walnut sweep from the upper corner down through the body of the panel, and the carving follows them so closely that the ridges look poured rather than cut. A keyhole void opens on the right where two waves fail to meet, letting a slice of wall through the middle of the composition.

What you see in the photograph is one panel built from solid hardwood blocks joined together, then sculpted as a single piece so the wave lines cross every join without a break. The outline is deliberately irregular, closer to a shield than a rectangle, and it is cut freehand rather than trimmed to a template. The surface is finished so the grain stays visible and warm to the touch. Made to order, one at a time.
