About this piece
Tall and narrow, it reads more like a column of moving water than a picture. Ribbons of dark walnut sweep down the upper half, tighten into rings across the middle, and slip into a single carved opening that drops away into shadow. Standing close, the eye follows the current all the way down.
Two carved panels sit one above the other, each built up from solid wood blocks joined before any cutting starts. The forms are shaped so the current crosses the horizontal seam without a break. A close finish keeps the black streaking and the chatoyance of the walnut on show. Carving starts after your order is placed.
The two panels travel separately, which keeps the carved lips of the opening intact and the shipping cost fair. They hang in sequence on the mounts provided, upper panel first, and the seam settles almost out of sight. Instructions are in the box, and we can guide you through the spacing if you want it exact.
