Chiseled and Burnished, a Round Wall Sculpture in Wood

Two moods share one circle. The upper left sweeps around as a smooth burnished plane the colour of dark honey, while the lower right is left rough, chiselled in short overlapping strokes and darkened to a smoky brown. The centre is open, so the wall itself becomes part of the work.

It is cut from solid wood blocks joined into a disc, then shaped so the outer rim wavers rather than running perfectly true. The polished side is worked until light slides off it. The rough side keeps every tool mark exactly where it fell. Both surfaces are finished thin, so what you see is wood and not coating. Carving begins once you order.
