Wings out, tips swept back, a notched trailing edge on both sides. The silhouette reads as a bat the moment you see it, even from across the room. The carving fans out from the body in long parallel flutes that follow the wing bones, then breaks into finer ripples toward the outer edges.
Solid hardwood blocks are joined, then hollowed and shaped so each wing dishes inward and the membrane looks stretched over it. The finish sits close to the surface and lets the darker grain streak diagonally through the wings the way the fibres actually run. Made to order in the workshop, one at a time.
The wingspan is wide, so measure your wall before you commit. It travels disassembled so the pointed tips are never carrying the load, and that keeps the crate small enough to ship without drama. Assembly is a short job with the enclosed instructions, and help is on hand if a joint does not want to seat.
