A Single Log, Opened Out Into a Canyon Wall Panel

Ridge after ridge runs across the face of this piece, cut so the layers step back the way canyon walls do when you look down on them. Two panels meet in one fine vertical line down the middle, and low on the left a small dark silhouette sits at the edge of a crest, turned toward all that open space. The scale reads one way from across the room and another way up close.

It is built from thick blocks of solid hardwood, joined and then carved as a single surface, which is why the pale sapwood and the deeper caramel figure run through the contours without a break. Every layer is worked by hand and sanded through fine grits, then finished with an oil that warms the wood and leaves the grain open to the touch. No two pieces come out identical because no two boards do. Carving begins after you order.
