From a few steps back, the beam looks like it is burning from the inside.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe beam and the flames are made from solid walnut blocks joined together, then carved so the shift from square stock to open flame reads as one gesture. The scooped hollows are worked by hand to different depths, which is why the light pools unevenly rather than washing flat. Finished thin, grain left open, cut to order.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt comes to you disassembled, the beam separate from the carved tails, which protects the thin points and keeps the crate a sensible size. Assembly means mounting the beam first and then attaching the flame sections in sequence.
